Arthroscopic Surgery

Definition: Arthroscopic surgery is a special type of orthopedic procedure which we use to diagnose as well as treat joint related problems. This surgery can be performed on any type of joint. Our surgeons undertake the following arthroscopic surgeries:

· Knee Arthroscopy
· Shoulder Arthroscopy

The technique used

While performing arthroscopic surgery, a scope type of instrument is inserted in the joint by making a small incision and the scope is attached to a fiberoptic source of light. This enables us to view pictures of the inner side of the joints. We also pump a fluid through the joints that clears the debris from the affected parts and makes it easier for us to view the inner portion.

Following this process, we make another incision in order to insert and handle the instruments required to perform the surgery.

Significance of Arthroscopic surgery:

This technique serves as a minimal treatment for a variety of joint problems. It has the following significance:

· Trims torn meniscus of the knee
· Repairs torn meniscus of the knee
· It repairs the rotator cuff present in the shoulders

Advantages of Arthroscopic surgery:

Since it is a minimal invasive surgical process, it is not very traumatic. Unlike open joint operation, this surgery is carried out by making small incisions and this enables quick recovery of the patient.

During the procedure, an image of the affected joints is visible on a large screen and this makes the surgery highly effective in repairing cartilage and ligaments thus preventing joint instability or an early onset of arthritis.
